A reactor, also known as an inductor, generates a magnetic field within a certain spatial range when a conductor is energized. Therefore, all current-carrying electrical conductors possess inductance in a general sense. However, the inductance of a long straight conductor is small, and the magnetic field it produces is weak. Consequently, practical reactors are made by winding conductors into a solenoid form, known as air-core reactors. Sometimes, to provide this solenoid with greater inductance, an iron core is inserted into it, resulting in an iron-core reactor.
Reactance is divided into inductive reactance and capacitive reactance. A more scientific classification refers to inductive reactance devices (inductors) and capacitive reactance devices (capacitors) collectively as reactors. However, since inductors existed first and were termed "reactors," what people now commonly call capacitors are capacitive reactance devices, while the term "reactor" specifically refers to an inductor.
Dedicated reactors for medium frequency furnaces are generally custom-made products to suit different medium frequency furnace power supplies. When placing an order, customers need to specify the operating frequency (typically used for smoothing after the three-phase fully controlled rectifier, the frequency is 300Hz; in countries with a 60Hz power supply, it is 360Hz). In special cases, the downstream inverter operating frequency (generally, the higher the operating power of the power supply, the lower the frequency) and the operating current (typically the DC current after rectification) are also required to confirm the model.
Depending on the customer's operating environment and application, they can also be classified as low-resistance type or high-resistance type. The low-resistance type is generally used for medium frequency power supplies above 300KW. With increased flow passages and thicker copper tubes, they can better adapt to various medium frequency heating power supplies.
With technological advancement, the core material has evolved from silicon steel sheets to microcrystalline magnetic cores. The size of medium frequency reactors has been significantly reduced, and heat generation has been greatly decreased. However, their cost is higher, and they are generally used in medium frequency IGBT power supplies.
Therefore, in summary, when ordering our company's medium frequency reactors, dear customers, please follow the sales staff's requests and provide as many detailed parameters as possible to enable us to supply the most suitable medium frequency reactor for your needs.
